This four-bedroom, single storey home is one I'm very proud of, not only because it’s been awarded a winner in its category by the Housing Industry of Australia (HIA) and the Master Builders of Australia (MBA), but also it proves that a limited budget doesn't have to result in poor design, and that's where I came in, bringing in clever design solutions, and a great mix of materials to create a home which is contemporary, practical and looks great too.
So, let's have a walk through to see why this particular home is so special and if its characteristics can help inspire your own interior selections. Starting from its very functional floor-plan, this home offers four bedrooms, two separate living areas, and a large alfresco, so although it’s a single storey it packs a lot in. It’s a common feature to enjoy a great flow from the open plan kitchen/dining/living area out onto the alfresco, but for this particular home we opted for two sets of large sliding glass doors which open up to merge the two areas into one unified and very large space, perfect for entertaining.
The finishes throughout were also carefully selected to offer a contemporary look, which is easy to live with, like in the kitchen, for example, where we introduced a strong contrasting palette, but kept it an easy to maintain and functional space. The large splash back window with its floating cabinetry overhead, is a successful solution that not only provides plenty of storage, but also helps flood the whole room with natural light.

Of course, there are many decisions involved in the building of a new home, especially a display home like this one, which has to appeal to a large market and wide range of people’s individual tastes. If you’d like to learn more about what made this particular home a ‘multi award winner’, you should watch my short video below; it's possible that some of the design decisions I explain there, might also help you with your own new home journey!
